Over 40 tenders to be announced within Rail Baltica project this year

More than 40 tenders are to be announced as part of the Rail Baltica European-gauge railroad project this year, LETA was told at the joint Baltic company RB Rail coordinating the Rail Baltica project.

Rail Baltica Global Forum, which is scheduled to take place in Riga on April 24-25, is the main international Rail Baltica event this year to revise the economic potential of the project, procurement policies and organization. The forum is also intended to provide networking opportunities to the project's potential suppliers. The event will deal with strategic and tactical issues from the national, regional and EU perspectives in order to advance the project's implementation.


The second day of the Forum is planned as an Industry Suppliers’ Day with the aim to gather suppliers from three Baltic states and beyond to both present the project’s procurement procedures as well as offer a networking opportunity for companies to potentially forge alliances for the project. This year, more than 40 tenders will be announced as part of the project in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.


RB Rail CEO Baiba Rubesa will inform participants of the forum on the Rail Baltica project's progress in the three Baltic states, the project's overall timetable and financing, as well as the distribution of responsibilities among the project's participants. Rubesa is also expected to present the key data and results of the latest study analyzing the project's costs and benefits, which will be addressed in more detail on the first day of the forum.

Information will also be provided at the forum on the specifics of national procurement procedures, which the companies that plan participation in Rail Baltica tenders have to take into consideration.


As reported, Rail Baltica Global Forum will be held in Riga on April 24-25.

The first day of the forum Rail Baltica – Building A NEW ECONOMIC CORRIDOR will focus on the potential of the Rail Baltica infrastructure to act as a catalyst of the economic development in the region. For the first time cost and benefit analysis of the project will be presented in this event.


The second day of the Forum Industry Supplier’s Day is organized as a major suppliers’ event for the project in this year to introduce all interested national and international suppliers in this year’s tenders to learn about the procurement policy, procedures, supplier’s code of conduct and qualification criteria. The general information on the procurement list will be presented during the event. In addition, this event is for the supplier relationship building and networking possibilities.


RB Rail is a joint venture established by the three Baltic states in October 2014. The Rail Baltica project seeks to re-establish a direct connection between the Baltic states and the European railway network.

The project is expected to facilitate regional integration by means of a railway link from Helsinki that would link Tallinn, Riga, Kaunas, Warsaw and Berlin and might potentially be extended to Venice. The EU will help finance the project from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for development of transport infrastructure.
