Lithuania`s Hidrostatyba and Latvia`s BMGS to reconstruct VLG shipyard's embankments

BC, Vilnius, 22.03.2017.Print version
The embankments used by Vakaru Laivu Gamykla (Western Shipyard, or VLG), a Lithuanian shipbuilding and repairing group controlled by Estonia's BLRT Grupp, will be reconstructed by construction company Hidrostatyba and Latvia's BMGS for 14.837 mln euros, reports LETA/BNS.

The two companies were the only participants of the tender called by the Klaipeda port authority, and the contract with them was signed last week, reads a report of the public procurement bid.

Embankments of Balku Bay, which VLG plans to invest about 100 mln euros in, should be adapted to the depth of 14.5 meters.

The Klaipeda port intends to invest about 150-180 mln euros in the Malku Bay in southern part of the city in the next three to four years. The port's executives say that the canal depth of 14.5 meters would make the companies more competitive. The deepening should be completed by the end of 2018.
