As reported, registration of the companies willing to start selling natural gas in Latvia after the market liberalization began today.

In order to get themselves entered in the Register of Natural Gas Suppliers, the companies will have to fill in the registration form on the SPRK website. Several companies have already inquired about the registration so that they could start doing business immediately upon the market opening on April 3, 2017.

Legal entities will have to pick a new natural gas supplier by June 15, 2017, but households will not be required to choose a new gas supplier or to pay the market price for natural gas. The households which elected to keep buying gas from the existing supplier, Latvijas Gaze natural gas utility, would receive gas at a regulated price determined by the SPRK until 2019.

Latvijas Gaze will remain the public gas utility until January 1, 2019, after which the status will go to a natural gas seller selling natural gas to the largest number of households.
