BC, Vilnius, 17.01.2017.Print version
Vilkyskiu Pienine, one of Lithuania's largest dairy companies, has sent the first shipment of its products to China, becoming the first Lithuanian dairy to export to China – the cargo of 20 t of mozzarella should reach the Chinese market within about a month, reports LETA/BNS.
"The shipment left on Jan. 12. The journey should take
about a month. We exported a sea container, which contains about 20 t of
mozzarella," told the company's CEO Gintaras
Bertasius.
Last August, China approved 16 Lithuanian dairy companies
eligible for exporting products to the giant market. The Chinese market is
vital for Lithuania, which lost a very profitable market in the wake of the
food product embargo slammed by Russia in August of 2014. Lithuanian dairy
companies used to export 20-40 percent of their output to Russia before the
embargo.
