Quantum physicist Ambainis voted European of the Year in Latvia

Quantum physicist and mathematician Andris Ambainis has been voted European of the Year in Latvia, informs LETA.

Explaining their choice, participants of the popular vote indicated that Ambainis is a prominent and inspiring scientist. Moreover, he exemplifies how Latvia and the EU can be promoted in the world through scientific achievements.


Arnis Riekstins, a co-owner of Mikrotikls routers and wireless ISP systems maker, and Culture Minister Dace Melbarde (National Alliance) took second and third position respectively in the vote.


Each year, the title is awarded to the person who has provided the most significant contribution to strengthening links between Latvia and the rest of Europe, raising Latvia's profile in Europe and integrating European values in Latvia.
