Tallinn airport expects 2016 to be best year in history
"Although recent terrorist attacks have disturbed air traffic, it might be the best year in history for us," marketing director of Tallinna Lennujaam Eero Pargmae said at a conference organized by the Competition Authority on Wednesday.
According to Pargmae the growth in passenger numbers is mainly a result of low fuel prices which have had a good effect on the aviation sector as new routes are being opened and tickets are cheaper. "One of the reasons behind it is also Nordica which has become a very capable company in a year," he added.
In the first 11 months of the year the airport has served 2.1 mln passengers and the average load factor has risen to 68%, while the number of regular passengers has increased by 4%. According to Pargmae the results are really good.
The airport wants to increase the number of its passengers by around 5 percent a year, which means 100,000 additional passengers a year, 10 mln euros for the tourism sector and an indirect impact on the economy of 30 mln euros, Pargmae said.
