Centenary celebrations to cost Latvia around EUR 60 million

The total cost of the various events marking the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Latvia in 2017-2021 may amount to EUR 59,075,947, according to the Culture Ministry's report on the 100th anniversary celebrations plan for 2017-2021 that the government will review next week, writes LETA.

The report says that the total financing for 2017 is EUR 12,696,847, EUR 25,254,818 for 2018, EUR 9,671,559 for 2019, and EUR 11,452,723 for 2020 and 2021.


These amounts also include some events that are held on a regular basis, for instance, EUR 6.5 mln necessary for the organization of the National Song and Dance Festival in 2018 has been included in the total amount of the 100th anniversary celebration cost for that year, as the culture minister's public relations advisor Ginta Bormane told LETA.


The report says that there are several sources of financing for the program - state budget, municipal financing, international financing, as well as support from investors and the general public. The total amount of state budget allocations for the program is currently estimated at EUR 32,236,000.
