Elron's Jan-Nov boardings total 6.2 mln
According to Elron
CEO Andrus Ossip, the main reasons
behind the increase of boardings are a busier schedule, longer trains and
higher speeds. "The goal set for 2020 in the transport development plan is
8.8 mln boardings a year and we are working toward that," Ossip said.
At present 5 boardings per resident is made in Estonia each
year, while the European average is 17 boarding per resident, Ossip said.
This year Elron's
most popular routes are Tallinn-Paldiski, Tallinn-Tartu, Tallinn-Riisipere,
Tallinn-Aegviidu and Tallinn-Keila.
In the 11 months Elron
earned 11.1 mln euros from ticket sales, 2.7% more than in the same period in 2015.
Ticket revenue covered 32% of all costs.
Elron is planning
to make investments worth 830,000 euros next year, of which 52 % is to go
toward increasing the comfort and safety of passengers, and 48 % toward
maintenance of trains and the depot.
The state-owned Elron,
or Eesti Liinirongid AS, became the
operator of all subsidized domestic train services in Estonia from the start of
2014. The company has 327 employees.
