Estonia launches application for declaring parcels online

BC, Tallinn, 29.11.2016.Print version
Estonian Tax and Customs Board on Tuesday launched an application for declaring parcels online, writes LETA/BNS.

"More and more Estonian people have started to make their purchases online and a big part of these goods arrive in Estonia from outside the European Union, mainly from China. This means that more and more people come across declaring parcels -- while in 2014 a total of 7,524 parcel declarations were submitted, a year later the number doubled," head of the customs department Urmas Koidu said in a press release.

Parcels from outside the EU and the value of which exceeds 22 euros have to be declared in customs.

According to the Tax and Customs Board, the change will also make life easier for people who bring home from abroad goods whose value exceeds the amount exempt from tax, as they can declare their goods online up to three days prior to entering the country.

Both applications are available in Estonian, Russian and English. The development of these was financed from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
