The mattress manufacturer Hilding Anders Baltic on Thursday opened a 7,000 square meter extension of its Estonian plant in the territory of the Rae rural municipality to the south of Tallinn that cost four million euros to build, reports LETA/BNS.

"We are expanding our business in Estonia, our goal is to become the Scandinavian know-how center for the Hilding Anders group where we will offer to our customers services from product development to manufacture," the plant's manager, Janek Haud, said.

He added that as of 2016 the Estonian plant serves as home to the group's textile related know-how and sample stock.

Of the 7,000 square meters of floor area added to the Rae plant 3,000 square meters is manufacturing area and 4,000 square meters warehouse area. The commercial and industrial real estate developer Kawe invested altogether 4 mln euros in the extension that brings the plant's total floor area to 22,000 square meters. Investment in equipment amounted to 2 million euros in 2016.

The plant's staff manager Carmen Fros said the plant provides its workers with transport to and back from work. Workers are brought to the plant on buses from different districts of Tallinn, the neighboring town of Maardu, and from the small towns of Loksa and Marjamaa. From 2014 the company has been offering free soup to workers for lunch.

"The training of one sewing factory worker to a professional level takes almost a year, therefore we are very interested in finding loyal workers. We are holding negotiations with the Unemployment Insurance Fund now to hire new workers," Fros said.

Hilding Anders Baltic produced 1.2 mln mattress covers in 2015 and is set to produce 1.3 mln covers in 2016 and 1.5 mln in 2017. The plant employs a workforce of 360 and the number of workers has grown by 100 since the beginning of 2015.
