Tallinn and Riga the best bargain choice for Christmas markets
The barometer data suggest that a two-night break for two
people in Tallinn would cost GBP 538 (EUR 625.69), which is by one third
cheaper than in Swedish capital Stockholm where a weekend for two would cost
GBP 801 (EUR 931.56) and which has been named as the most expensive
destination.
A weekend in Riga for two tourists would cost GBP 547 (EUR
636.16), while the third position was taken by Czech capital Prague where
British tourists would have to spend GBP 582 (EUR 676.86) for a weekend for
two.
The barometer has included prices of flight tickets from
London to the destination and back, accommodation for two nights, two transport
tickets from airport to the city center, two meals with wine, coffee, drinks
and snacks at Christmas markets.
The Post Office European Christmas Markets Barometer was
compiled using prices sourced from national and regional tourist offices of the
11 participating cities in Europe – Tallinn, Riga, Prague, Munich, Lille,
Budapest, Berlin, Strasbourg, Copenhagen, Vienna and Stockholm.
The Riga Tourism Development Bureau (RTAB) was established
in late 2009 by the Riga City Council (70 percent), the national air carrier
Airbaltic (10 percent), the Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association (10
percent) and the Association of Latvian Tourism Agents (10 percent) for
promotion of tourism and Riga as a tourism destination for foreign travelers.
