Tallink's 212-meter shuttle ferry Megastar to start service Jan. 29
"Although the Tallink Shuttle standard will be
generally upgraded with the delivery of Megastar, the average ticket price will
remain stable. Over the past 10 years we have sailed with 41 mln people on that
particular line, who have given us valuable feedback that has now been turned
into real features on Megastar," said Lembit Kitter, member of the management
board of AS Tallink Grupp.
The delivery of Megastar by Meyer Turku shipyard is planned
to take place in the second half of January 2017. To secure the accommodation
of all passengers in case the delivery of the vessel is adjourned, the number
of tickets to be sold will not exceed the capacity of the replacing vessel,
Superstar.
Megastar will offer 62% more space than the ferries of the
Shuttle concept serving the same route now. At 2,800 passengers, the new
vessel's passenger capacity is bigger by 40% than that of the present Shuttle
vessels. Passengers with cars will enter the ship through a second level ramp,
whereas cargo and buses will enter through a base level ramp. The vessel
features a garage with 150 parking places that is directly linked with an
onboard store, Traveller's Superstore, and can be accessed also during the
voyage.
There will be four different travel classes on Megastar. In
addition to Star Class, an upgraded Comfort Class and exclusive Business
Lounge, there will be a new area, Sitting Lounge, which is included in the
ticket price of a Star Class ticket. A totally new concept for the fast ferry
service, Sitting Lounge is a quiet area with comfortable armchairs with a
seating capacity of over 300 seats and plenty of charging points for handheld
and other electric devices.
There will be seven different restaurants and cafes on board
Megastar, including a classical buffet restaurant, an a la carte restaurant, a
fast food restaurant and cafes, alongside several pubs and bars.
The 212-meter Megastar will use LNG as fuel, but will also
be able to run on marine diesel.
