Eesti Energia eyeing first sales in Poland early in 2017

Eesti Energia's applications for licenses to start selling electric energy on the Polish retail market have reached the final stretch and the company hopes to conclude the first transactions in Poland at the beginning of next year, CEO of the state-owned Estonian energy group Hando Sutter said on Friday.

"By now a company has been established and a sales team formed in Poland, and the license applications are in the final phase," Sutter said at a press event presenting the group's third-quarter results. "We expect to conclude the first transactions there already at the beginning of next year."

Sutter did not give a concrete answer to LETA/BNS' question how big a share of the Polish market the company hoped to achieve next year. "We'll rather advance step by step, start signing contracts, focusing first on the customers with whom we already have contacts in the Baltic region," he said.

In his words, Eesti Energia's initial investment in Poland is not overly large and the company is banking on organic growth.

The Polish subsidiary of Eesti Energia is a limited-liability company with a registered capital of one million zloty or approximately 227,000 euros.
