Court gives nod to continue Vilnius CHP plant construction

A Vilnius court has given the green light to the state energy group Lietuvos Energija (Lithuanian Energy) to continue the construction of a new biomass and waste-fired cogeneration plant in the capital, reports LETA/BNS.

The Vilnius Regional Court on Oct. 26 dismissed as unfounded a lawsuit filed by Switzerland's Hitachi Zosen Inova, a subsidiary of Japan's industrial and engineering corporation Hitachi Zosen.

The construction work was put on hold after Hitachi Zosen Inova and its partner, Spain's Abener Energia, the runner-up bidders, contested the results of the bidding for the construction work.

The Lithuanian Court of Appeals earlier this month suspended a 178.29 mln euro contract on the construction of the plant's waste-burning unit that Lietuvos Energija signed in late September with Germany's Steinmuller Babcock Environment, Poland's construction group Budimex and Lithuania's Kauno Dujotieko Statyba (Kaunas Pipeline Construction).

Poland's Rafako is to install the plant's biomass burning equipment and supplies infrastructure for 149.65 mln euros.

The cogeneration plant is planned to be built by the end of 2018.
