Latvian architect and entrepreneur Uldis Pilens has taken 16th spot on Thinkers 20: The Brightest Business Minds in Northern Europe, drawn up by the Nordic Business Forum.

Pilens, 59, is the founder and chairman of UPB, one of Latvia’s largest holding companies. Pilens has grown the company from a small architectural bureau into a major diversified pan-European industrial group in 25 years.

Pilens is the only Latvian featuring in the list of Northern Europe’s brightest business minds.

Topping the list is Petter Stordalen, a 53 years old Norwegian hotel and real estate magnate, who epitomizes the modern generation of the world’s most accomplished entrepreneurs who think big, and for whom social responsibility and business success are inextricably linked.

Estonian Taavi Kotka, 37, the creator and CIO of Estonian e-Residency Program, has been ranked 12th.

Ilja Laurs, a 40 years old entrepreneur and investor from Lithuania, has been ranked eighth on the list of Northern Europe’s brightest business minds.
