Latvia 3rd among OECD members for percentage of fiber connections

Latvia ranks third and Estonia fifth among member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for the percentage of fiber connections in total broadband, informs LETA/BNS.

The ratio, based on data for December 2015, is highest in Japan at 73.3%. Next come South Korea with 71.3%, Latvia with 60.7% and Sweden with 48.9%. Estonia is in fifth place with a ratio of 34.2%.


With ratios of respectively 7.36% and 6%, Estonia and Latvia meanwhile are bottom of the OECD scoreboard when it comes to the speed of growth in fiber subscriptions year over year. Of the countries for which data was available only Japan ranked lower with a growth rate of 4.68% compared with December 2014.


The top three countries for the speed of growth in fiber penetration were New Zealand, Greece and Spain with ratios of respectively 132.18, 123.73 and 101.92%.
