Electricity consumption in Lithuania increased by 5.6% in the first half of this year compared with same period last year to reach 4.5 bln kilowatt-hours (kWh), Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (Energy Distribution Operator, or ESO) said, LETA/BNS writes.

According to the report, the bulk of the electricity (69%) was consumed by commercial clients, while households accounted for the remaining 31%.

All in all, commercial clients consumed 3.1 bln kWh in the January-June period, up by 6% year-on-year. ESO said the consumption level was due to 8.7% increase in consumption by small- and medium-sized businesses and 2.8% increase in consumption by industrial companies.

In the first six months of 2016, households consumed 1.4 bln kWh of electricity, which indicates a rise by 4.7% year-on-year.
