Riga airport expects to serve record large number of passengers this year

International Airport Riga this year expects to serve a record large number of passengers, said the airport’s council chairman Juris Kanels, reports LETA.

According to the present forecasts, the airport will serve about 5.3 mln passengers.

 

Kanels said that the results of the first six months are better than in the previous year, suggesting that the annual results will also be better.

 

Number of passengers at the Riga airport increased 6.3% y-o-y to 2.526 mln in the first half of this year. There was also a 2.1% increase in the number of flights to 33,011, and cargo turnover at the airport grew 9.8% to 9,845 tons.

 

In 2015, Riga airport provided services to 5.163 mln passengers, up 7.2% from 2014, as well as handled 68,078 flights and 18,863 tons of cargo.

 

Fully-owned by the Latvian state, Riga International Airport is the largest air traffic hub in the Baltic states.

 

The meeting of shareholders of the Riga airport on June 20 approved the supervisory board’s proposal for removing from office two members of the airport’s management board - Andris Liepins, the chairman of the management board, and Ilmars Upenieks, a member of the management board.

 

According to Firmas.lv business database, in 2015 the airport’s turnover was EUR 49,090,248, up 10% from 2014, and the airport’s profit reached EUR 1,150,876.
