Latvian forestry exports worth EUR 894.52 mln in five months

During the first five months of this year Latvia exported EUR 894.52 mln worth of forestry industry products, up 5% from the respective period in 2015, the Latvian Agriculture Ministry said, cites LETA.

Timber and timber products made up the bulk or 86.1% of total forestry product exports in the first five months of 2016 (85.5% in Jan-May 2015), accounting for EUR 770.05 mln and growing 6% year-on-year.


In January-May this year Latvia supplied its forestry products mainly to the UK (19 %), Sweden (11.3%) and Germany (9.9%). As compared to the first five months of 2015, forestry industry exports to the UK grew 11.6% to EUR 170 mln, exports to Sweden increased 32.4% to EUR 100 mln, and exports to Germany rose 6.3% to EUR 88 mln.


Imports of forestry products in the first five months of this year rose to EUR 300.12 mln compared to EUR 281.31 mln a year ago.


The main import partners were Lithuania (18.2%) supplying EUR 54 mln worth of forestry products to Latvia, Estonia (13.3%) supplying products for EUR 39 mln, and Poland (12%), supplying products for EUR 36 mln.
