Latvijas Dzelzcels signs protocol of intent on cooperation in development of rail traffic from China to Latvia
The protocol was signed during Transport Minister Uldis Augulis' visit to China.
Berzins and Gunagzy agreed that the first test train would travel from China to Latvia by the end of this year. The agreement is the result of a long and complex work done by both sides, explained Berzins, adding that he would continue work on deepening the cooperation with China to organize regular train traffic from China to Latvia, thereby consolidating Latvijas Dzelzcels' role as the leading Baltic transport company.
The agreement stipulates development of train traffic between China and Europe, coordination of cooperation with freight shippers, suppliers, and joint marketing activities.
LDZ Cargo Logistika and China Railway Container Transport Corporation will be responsible for organizing the arrival of the first train from China to Latvia.
Augulis and Berzins also met with representatives from China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, and several other organizations. On July 13, Augulis will have a meeting with the heads of China Merchants Group.
