Number of visitors to Riga Zoo peaks in 2015

The Riga Zoo received 336,190 visitors in 2015, which is the highest annual number of visitors since 2009, reports LETA, according to the zoological garden’s annual report for 2015.

In 2014, the Riga Zoo was visited by 294,909 people, but the highest attendance in the last nine years was recorded in 2007 when the number of visitors reached 365,014.

 

Revenue from admission fees has also increased year-on-year to EUR 1.52 million in 2015 from EUR 1.341 million in 2014.

 

Total revenue last year was EUR 3.1 million, of which EUR 1.667 million were own revenue of the Riga Zoo, EUR 1.006 million was financing from the Riga City Council and EUR 382,000 was financing from the Latvian Ministry for Environment and Regional Development.


Expenditure totaled EUR 2.32 million, of which most or EUR 1.602 million were wages and social insurance contributions.

 

At the end of 2015, the Riga Zoo had 381 species in its collection. Last year 118 species multiplied, producing a total of 738 offspring.
