Lithuania's airports post 14.7% growth in passenger traffic for January-May

A total of 1.743 million passengers went through Lithuania's airports during the first five months of 2016, a rise of 14.7% on the same time last year, preliminary data from Statistics Lithuania showed on June 21st, cites LETA/BNS.

In May alone, passenger traffic rose by an annual 12.9% and by a monthly 18.5% to 449,700, the office said.

 

Between January and May, the largest passenger numbers flew to and from Britain (375,800, or 21.6% of the total number), Germany (170,400, or 9.8%), and Norway (139,200, or 8%).

 

Year-on-year increases were recorded in passenger numbers to and from Denmark, at 74.7%, Spain, at 28.9%, and the UK, at 19.8%.

 

The country's airports handled a total of 5,500 tons of cargo and mail in January through May, up 19.2% from a year ago.

 

Lithuania's air carriers saw their total passenger numbers fall by 7.9% in the first five months of 2016 from a year ago to 166,600 passengers, preliminary data from Statistics Lithuania showed on Tuesday.

 

The total volume of cargo and mail handled by the country's air carriers plunged by 31% to 186.7 tons.

 

In May alone, Lithuania's airlines carried 65,200 passengers – up 90.2% month-on-month, but down 2.8% year-on-year.
