Marsalis Metall, the company that acquired the facilities of the Loksa Laevatehas shipbuilding plant in the Estonian North Coast town of Loksa in March 2016 and started manufacturing operations there at the end of May, is planning to hire up to 300 workers, the regional newspaper Harju Elu said, cites LETA/BNS.

"We are planning to carry out manufacturing operations on 37,000 square meters and to hire up to 300 workers. Of course we prefer locals, but we've also thought about having a bus for workers run between our plant and Tallinn," Marsalis Metall board member Erich Reimets said at an opening event.

"We have sold our this year's output already, the buyers are construction companies in Sweden," Reimets said.

Reimets said that also the facilities of the port, including cranes, will soon be busy again when the plant starts exporting its output, mostly wall and floor panels. The plant is ready also to make metal structures to order.

Managers of Marsalis Metall have said the Loksa plant was acquired after an in-depth analysis and market research. The purchase and sale transactions was concluded on March 15.

Besides a new company, Marsalis Element OU, has started operation at Loksa, making concrete elements and ready-to-use concrete. During the first week of operation Marsalis Element dispatched 15 truckloads of concrete panels to customers.

A manufacturer of metal structures established in 2009, Marsalis Metall OU exports 99% of its output. The company's manufacturing units in the Baltic countries and Scandinavia employ a workforce of 380.

Marsalis Metall made a profit of 157,959 euros on sales of 16.8 million euros in 2014.
