Tartu-based company developing game platform for sick children

The Tartu-based company Frozen Kingdom OU is developing a game platform for children suffering from chronic illnesses and those being treated in a hospital, informs LETA.

"We are focusing on one large project, which is gamification of the time spent by chronically ill children in hospital," Gert Post, owner and manager of the company, told BNS.

Frozen Kingdom says it is building a platform where every ill child is turned into a superhero. They will get points for time spent in hospital, for different procedures, visits, social activities and more. They can also form parties and go on a quest to fight monsters, find treasures and save the imaginary magic world.

The games would also be educational. "You can put facts into everything. If you spend seven days in hospital, for instance, you will learn that this is how long it took to fly to the Moon and back," Post said.

The plan to develop a game platform for sick children builds on Post's earlier idea to create games based on children's drawings and the company's past experience in developing gamification apps. "This was a logical follow-up," Post said.

The company is currently in the stage of putting together the concept and development work is expected to start in the second half of the year. Plans also are to expand to other markets beyond Estonia.

Frozen Kingdom OU has obtained a grant of almost 12,000 euros from a program of Enterprise Estonia to enhance the export capability of companies active in creative economy.
