The number of foreign visitors in Latvia keeps increasing in Q1
The average length of a stay of foreign visitors in accommodation establishments was 2.1 nights.
In the 1st quarter of 2016, 240.5 thsd foreign visitors were hosted in accommodation establishments; of them 45.0% were visitors from the neighbouring countries. As compared to the 1st quarter of 2015, the number of visitors from European Union Member States has increased: from Finland (by 28.0%), from the United Kingdom (by 16.0%), from Spain (by 15.2%), from Germany (by 11.0%), from Lithuania (by 3.5%), and from Estonia (by 2.3%). In the 1st quarter of 2016 the number of visitors from Russia grew by 3.2%.
Of all foreign visitors 86.0% stayed in Riga, 5.5% – in Jūrmala, 1.2% – in Liepāja, and 0.9% of foreign visitors stayed in Daugavpils and Sigulda county.

In the 1st quarter of 2016 there were 249.4 mln visitors hosted in accommodation establishments in Riga, which is 6.2% more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The number of foreign visitors in Riga increased by 5.5%. The majority of foreign visitors came from Russia (18.7%), Estonia (10.1%), Lithuania (9.8%), Germany (7.7%), the United Kingdom (7.5%) Finland (6.0%), and Norway (5.4%).
In the 1st quarter of 2016, 125.6 thsd Latvian residents were hosted in tourist accommodation establishments. As compared to the 1st quarter of 2015 the number of Latvian residents hosted in tourist accommodation establishments has not changed significantly (decrease of 0.2%), while the number of nights spent has grown by 4.1%. Mostly Latvian residents stayed in Riga (34.0% of visitors), in Jūrmala (10.5%), in Liepāja (8.4%), in Daugavpils (4.0%), and in Sigulda county (3.9%).
