More than 10,000 people have applied to become Estonia's e-residents since December 2014
The biggest number of e-residency applications have been submitted in Finland, Russia, the United States, Ukraine and Italy, spokespeople for the Interior Ministry said.
On Thursday the government approved and sent to the parliament a bill according to which Estonian residents as well as e-residents would be able to open a bank account without visiting the bank office.
According to Estonian Interior Minister Hanno Pevkur, it is a big step forward in the development of the e-residency program. "The number of people wanting to become e-residents has turned out to be bigger than expected, and developing services will help to bring new investments and jobs to Estonia," he added.
Estonia is planning to change the Identity Documents Act so that a person who at present has no connection to the Estonian state could become an e-resident.
