"As a result of several years of work, we have developed products made from birch sap and I can see serious potential in selling them on foreign markets," Nopri Talumeierei owner and CEO Tiit Niilo told BNS on Thursday.

Niilo said that where earlier only fermented birch sap has been available in stores in Estonia, Nopri this year came up with four different kinds of bottled birch sap lemonade, frozen organic birch sap and maple sap.

Niilo said his company is in talks with potential partners in Germany, Netherlands, the UK and Austria, who have demonstrated interest in the products.

"The market with the biggest potential now is Germany, where we are expecting a major order. While no agreement has been signed, we are very close to it," he added.

Nopri has invested approximately 130,000 euros in the collection of birch sap and developing products from it.

"Once we get the export agreements, we will see what our need for investment is and what else we can do with birch sap to add value to it," Niilo said. He said the company is working closely with research institutions such as the Estonian University of Life Sciences to meet valid food technology requirements.

Nopri buys birch sap from residents of the southest Estonian region where it has its base.

OU Nopri Talumeiereii earned a profit of 39,148 euros on sales of 758,915 euros in 2014. The main products sold by Nopri are raw milk, curds, yoghurts, sandwich spreads and cottage cheese.
