In February, 4% more tourists stayed in Estonian hotels

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2016, 183,000 domestic and foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which is 4% more than in February 2015. The number of both domestic and foreign tourists increased.

96,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 4% more than in February 2015. The number of nights spent by foreign tourists remained at the level of February 2015. In February, 72% of the foreign tourists arrived from neighbouring countries Finland, Russia and Latvia. There was a 3% increase in the number of tourists arriving from Finland, compared to February of the previous year. For the second month in a row, the number of tourists arriving from Russia remained on the same level as in the same month of the previous year. 17% more tourists from Latvia stayed in accommodation establishments. There was an increase in the number of tourists arriving from several European countries, but also from the USA and Asian countries. 77% of the foreign tourists preferred to stay in the accommodation establishments of Tallinn. 7% of the foreign tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Pärnu city and 5% in Tartu city.

 

87,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 4% more than in February 2015. The number of nights spent by domestic tourists increased 5%, i.e. the average duration of stay in accommodation establishments was a little longer than in February 2015. 60% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 23% were on a business trip. 28% of the domestic tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Harju county, 17% in Pärnu county, 11% in Ida-Viru county and 9% in Tartu county. Compared to February 2015, there was an increase in the number of domestic tourists staying in accommodation establishments in all three counties. In Ida-Viru county, the number of accommodated domestic tourists decreased 4%, while there was an 8% increase in the number of foreign tourists there.

 

In February, 874 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 18,000 rooms and 41,000 beds were available for tourists. 35% of the rooms and 28% of the beds were occupied. The average cost of a guest night was 32 euros. The average cost of a guest night was 35 euros in Harju county, 31 euros in Tartu county and 26 euros in Pärnu county.
