Estonian aircraft care Magnetic MRO to enter training business

BC, Tallinn, 19.02.2016.Print version
Magnetic MRO, a company specializing in aircraft care, became the first Estonian company to obtain the international Part 147 certificate on the basis of which it will in the near future start training specialists for three types of planes, informs LETA/BNS.

"We shall mostly train specialists for ourselves as our orders and volumes keep growing from year to year. But we also want to sell the training service, as we are a business that has to earn profit," chief operating officer Risto Maeots told BNS.

The company used to outsource training, he added. "Now we can ourselves provide training and keep instructors busy, which increases our independence. It's good for the trainees, too, as their license is valid throughout the world," Maeots said.

The company does not have to make major investments to enter the new field, as it has both classrooms and hangars for practice. It acquired training materials alongside the certificate.

The certificate Magnetic MRO obtained this week allows it to train specialists for Boeing 737 Classic aircraft. Certificates for Boeing 737 Next Gen and Airbus 320 will follow soon.

At the beginning of February Magnetic MRO acquired MAC Interiors, a UK-based aircraft interiors production and engineering company.

Over the last 18 months the company expanded to full aircraft painting, engines on wing and off wing services, components solutions, and other areas of MRO activities.

Established in 2002, Magnetic MRO used to belong to SAS until 2010, when it was acquired by Baltcap Private Equity Fund. In 2014, two Cypriot companies, Sasmex Investments Ltd and Tiaravia Services Ltd, acquired one-third of the shares in the company.

Magnetic MRO had sales of 16.5 million euros in 2014, around 15 percent less than a year earlier. It ended the year with a loss of 315,685 euros.
