Chinese delegation interested in Riga port’s project Krievu Sala
The delegation, which included representatives of the Economic and Commercial Councillor’s Office of the Chinese embassy in Latvia, also visited Baltic Container Terminal, the fastest growing container terminal in the Baltic States.
The Chinese representatives also inquired about the project for expanding the port’s operations in the Krievu Sala area in Riga. The Chinese interest in this project stems from the memorandum of cooperation signed between Riga Coal Terminal and China Harbour Engineering Company in September 2014 about cooperation and implementation of an investment project as part of development of the Krievu Sala area.
The meeting of transport ministers and the business forum in the 16+1 format (16 Central and Eastern European countries plus China) to be hosted by the Latvian capital Riga this spring were also discussed during the meeting. This initiative seeks to boost economic cooperation with China and will facilitate direct bilateral contacts.
