East-Viru Estonian industrial areas to create 1,500 jobs in couple of years

BC, Tallinn, 29.01.2016.Print version
The first development projects of the East-Viru industrial areas development foundation in the cities of Narva and Johvi are expected to create up to 1,500 jobs in the region in the next two to three years, informs LETA/BNS.

"By now all necessary infrastructure has been built and most of the plots have been sold there," Teet Kuusmik, board member of the development foundation SA Ida-Viru Toostusalad, told BNS on Thursday.

Kuusmik said he is rather confident that the jobs will become reality, as under the agreements signed so far the construction of 5-6 facilities in Narva and 3-4 facilities in Johvi should start this year.

"We conclude binding investment agreements with all companies, which means that the company must build production facilities within three years and hire people," Kuusmik said.

At this point the facilities of two logistics centers and two manufacturing enterprises have been completed at the Narva industral park, Kuusmik said. Both were completed at the beginning of 2015. "These companies employ more than 250 people now and they keep hiring people," Kuusmik said.

The facilities of one more manufacturing company are being built.

Businesses have invested 45 million euros in the Narva industrial park by now. "Johvi's a bit newer thing, we finished work on infrastructure there only at the end of last year. But two properties have been bought there and one's investing already," Kuusmik said.

Mostly logistics and manufacturing companies are showing interest in the East-Viru industrial parks. "The companies that come here mostly are active in metalwork, woodwork and manufacture of plastic," the manager said.

In addition to the Narva and Johvi parks, East-Viru industrial parks include the Kohtla-Jarve Industrial Park, the Kivioli Enterprise Area and the Narva Kulgu Industrial Park. Kuusmik said work to build the infrastructure of these three parks is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2017 at the latest.
