Estonian agricultural authority disbursed EUR 229 mln in subsidies in 2015

The Estonian agricultural registers and information authority PRIA paid out 229.2 million euros in support to 23,337 applicants in 2015, informs LETA.

During the 15 years since its inception PRIA has paid out altogether 2.65 billion euros.

The sum total paid out last year was smaller by 13 percent than in 2014 and the number of recipients was smaller by 1,300. The reason for the reduction was the switch to a new EU financing period. By the beginning of 2015, 5 percent had been left over of the monies of the Rural Development Plan for 2007-2013, while measures of the new period only started to be applied and months or even years may be needed for the processing of an application and eventual disbursement of support, PRIA said.

"In addition to paying out 229 million euros we made significantly more decisions on granting support, to the amount of 283 million euros," PRIA Director General Jaan Kallas said. "A number of new measures were launched, meaning that we and PRIA's customers alike had to get to the know of new requirements," he added.

PRIA made payouts under 80 sub-measures, 18 of which were new or one-off subsidies related to African swine fever or difficult market situation.
