Financial Times: Global Executive MBA in Vienna ranked the 44th-best program in the world

BC, Riga/Vienna, 03.12.2015.Print version
Despite the continuing dominance of Asian MBA providers, the WU Executive Academy's Global Executive MBA has achieved an excellent overall result in this year's FT Executive MBA (EMBA) ranking, moving up 18 places to 44th. It is now the 14th-best EMBA program in the EU and the 4th-best in the German-speaking world (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). In several key categories of the ranking the Global Executive MBA has once again obtained top scores.

Besides international accreditations like AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS, the prestigious FT EMBA ranking is one of the most important factors influencing prospective students in their MBA choices. Of all the MBA programs around the world, only an infinitesimal percentage meets the FT's strict criteria for participation. Qualifying for the ranking is thus a success in itself.

In recent years, Asia has dominated the FT EMBA ranking, and this trend continues in 2015. As in 2014, Tsinghua University/Insead, at 1st, and Kellogg/HKUST Business School, at 2nd, are in the lead. Asian business schools offer, or are involved in, 7 of the top 10 programs.

"Considering the strong competition from Asian programs resulting mostly from the high earnings of participants, coming 44th is no mean achievement. Compared to last year, we have moved up an incredible 18 places," says Prof. Bodo B. Schlegelmilch, Academic Director of the Global Executive MBA.

The crème de la crème of the world's MBA programs

Since first participating in the ranking of the world's best EMBA programs, the Global Executive MBA has repeatedly occupied a position in upper mid-table (2011: 38th, 2013: 46th). The WU Executive Academy's new dean, Prof. Barbara Stöttinger, too, is delighted with the excellent overall result achieved this year:

"What matters to us is not only our place in the ranking but also how we compare to other top MBA programs. We are again ahead of internationally renowned universities including Henley Business School, University of Toronto: Rotman or Essec/Mannheim, so being 44th is really great. I am absolutely delighted with this result, not least because it is good news for our students and alumni in that their MBA degrees will be even more valuable on the international job market."

Top scores in key categories

The overall result achieved in the ranking is a combined total of 16 categories. Compared to last year, the Global Executive MBA has improved in almost all of them. Three years after graduating, alumni earn 35% more than before their training. In three categories that are of particular importance to students the Executive MBA is even among the top 20. The program ranks 7th (1st in the EU) as far as "Average work experience" is concerned and 17th (8th in the EU) when it comes to the "Internationality of students".

In terms of "International course experience", the program is 17th (4th in the EU), ahead of the University of Chicago: Booth, London Business School or Northwestern University: Kellogg. Three ten-day residencies to Asia (India and China), Russia and the USA, respectively, form the backbone of the program's exceptional international orientation.
