"E-residency became one year old today. Thanks to e-residency there's over 7,000 more of us, and this is a good achievement for the first year. I thank you for the work done," Roivas said according to spokespeople for the government.

The prime minister said he wanted to extend his gratitude to the e-residency team at Enterprise Estonia, the supervisory board of the program, the Interior Ministry, the Police and Border Guard Board, the country's missions abroad, the state institutions connected with the e-residency service as well as private businesses.

Roivas described e-residency as a unique and excellent example of Estonia's ability to be a pioneer in the world of e-services. E-residency has shifted mental frames, has made us and other countries alike think truly globally – e-residency has potential to make us big," the prime minister said.

"And I say potential, because the success of the program inspires, but also obliges the government to offer more services necessary for e-residents in collaboration with the private sector. Only in this way can the established goal of 10 million e-residents be reached. Only by developing e-residency services at a faster pace than so far will the program's impact reach also our economy. Let's do it together," the prime minister and chairman of the Reform Party said.
