China Merchants Group plans to expand in Klaipeda

The Chinese corporation plans to establish a logistics park for Chinese manufacturers in Klaipeda, invest in the seaport and become the owner of one of its terminals and a potential partner for the port's further development, the Lithuanian government said.
"I welcome CMG's intentions to expand its operations in Lithuania," Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius said in a press release.
According to the prime minister, Lithuania is ready to provide all the necessary assistance to attract CMG's investments to Lithuania.
"In order to ensure successful cooperation between the Klaipeda State Seaport Authority and CMG, a plan will be developed. It will be developed by a commission formed specifically for this purpose, similar to the commission for the implementation of the liquefied natural gas terminal project," he said.
CMG last week signed an agreement with the state railway operator Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) on the establishment of a forwarding and logistic joint venture.
Founded in 1872, CMG is a state-owned conglomerate whose main business sectors are transport, finance and property.
