Estonian medicines market expands by 4.1% in Q3
The human medicines market increased by 4.5% to 62.8 million euros, statistics of the State Agency of Medicines show.
Wholesale to general pharmacies accounted for the biggest part or 69% of the total turnover of human medicines. The share of hospital pharmacies was 30% and sale to other institutions made up 1% as usual.
Prescription drugs accounted for 85%, over-the-counter pharmaceuticals 14% and hospital packages a little less than 1% of the turnover in the third quarter.
The volume of the veterinary medicines market at wholesale prices was 2.9 million euros, nearly 4% smaller than a year ago.
There were in Estonia 28 licensed wholesalers selling human medicines to general and hospital pharmacies and other institutions in the third quarter. Wholesalers of veterinary medicines numbered nine.
