Chinese inspectors satisfied with state of Estonian fish processing enterprises
Their visit is part of the process of approval of Estonian companies aimed at opening up new opportunities for the export of output to the People's Republic of China, spokespeople for the Estonian Ministry of Rural Affairs said. According to Olev Kalda, deputy director general of the Veterinary and Food Board, the officials were generally satisfied with what they saw in the enterprises they visited.
He added that the Chinese agencies will draw up a thorough report based on the audit and decide whether there is a need for additional inspection.
The Chinese system of approval requires the registration of each fish species separately at the Chinese supervisory authority and they process the documents related to the registration of only one fish species at a time. Since China views sprat and Baltic herring as one and the same species, the Chinese inspectors are inspecting companies handling sprat and Baltic herring simultaneously.
In 2014, different fish products worth 2.8 million euros were exported from Estonia to China.
