The fruit and vegetable processing company Spilva is compensating a reduction of exports to Russia with an increase in exports to Europe, as well as new export markets, the company's director Lolita Bemhena informed LETA.

Last year, the company's total amount of sales to Russia was 3.8% of its total sales. However, despite the Russian food embargo and a drop in exports to Russia, the company points out that it has been successful in increasing turnover.

''Even though there are problems in eastern markets, the company has been able to increase turnover this year thanks to an increase in exports to EU countries,'' she said.

As reported, Spilva earned EUR 1.39 million in 2014, a 21% increase on EUR 1.15 million the company earned in 2013.

Meanwhile, Spilva turnover in 2014 reached EUR 21.584 million, which is 18% more than in the preceding year – EUR 18.235 million.

Spilva launched its operations in 1992. The company produces tomato sauces, ketchup, mayonnaise, dressings, canned vegetables, jams, desserts, mustard, natural juices, soups, juices, teas, spices, and various other products.

According to Firmas.lv information, Spilva's shares belong to the Swedish company Procordia Food AB, which in turn is part of the Norwegian Orkla Group.
