Four Chinese inspectors inspected the Estonian milk processing companies last week and their initial feedback was positive, said the Estonian Veterinary and Food Board Head Ago Pärtel, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

"It was emphasized that Estonia is a friendly country and close and fruitful cooperation has begun. They reaffirmed on their part that our state supervision in the dairy sector is good and so are the companies," said Pärtel.

This week, Estonia has to send the Chinese some translations and then expects a written report. In addition, it is necessary to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Estonian Minister of Rural Affairs and Chinese supervision authority AQSIQ. Then, the Chinese market can finally open for Estonian dairy products.

The approval process has been going on for two years and the Food and Veterinary Office has submitted extensive written reviews in the fields of legislation, monitoring organization and its results.

In January, Estonia was visited by Deputy Minister for Agriculture of the People's Republic of China Niu Dun, with whom a cooperation agreement between the Ministries of Agriculture of China and Estonia was signed. Estonian food producers wish to bring to the Chinese market in particular dairy, meat and fish products.
