Latvia for the first time since 2001 advanced to EuroBasket quarters

On September 12th, the Latvian national men's basketball team defeated Slovenia in a final 16 match of the European Men's Basketball Championships (EuroBasket 2015), informs LETA.

In a tense game all the way, Latvia beat Slovenia 73:66.

 

Janis Strelnieks led the way for Latvia with 17 points, followed by Kaspars Berzins with 13 points.

 

The Latvian national men's basketball team – advancing to the quarterfinals in the European Basketball Championship (EuroBasket 2015) for the first time since 2001, will face 2014 champion France, a 76-53 victor over Turkey on Saturday.

 

26,153 fans were in the arena in Lille for the France game, breaking a European championship record.

 

Lithuanian team also won the 1/8 match against Georgia and will play in the quarters.

 

The top 2 teams in the EuroBasket tournament earn automatic qualification to the Olympics, while teams 3-7 qualify for the Olympic qualification tournament.

 

The ¼ pairs are:

 

- Spain-Greece

- France-Latvia

- Serbia-Czech Republic

- Italy-Lithuania
