EUR 1 mln to be invested in development of KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in Riga

BC, Riga, 31.08.2015.Print version
Around EUR 1 million will be invested in the development of the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Pizza Hut in Latvia, the KFC franchise owner in the Baltic countries Sigurdur Arnar Sigurdsson told LETA.

He notes a Pizza Hut restaurant, around 300 square meters in area, will open in Riga by the end of the year, and that several locations are being considered for the opening of new KFC restaurants next year.

Sigurdsson explained that although Pizza Hut would be located next to the KFC that opened in downtown Riga on August 28th, they will not be competitors as they have different concepts. Pizza Hut serves customers at tables, while KFC does not.

When asked about the origin of chicken in KFC products, Sigurdsson explained that as of now chickens are brought from Lithuanian poultries. However, talks are under way with several Latvian poultries about fresh chicken supplies to KFC. According to the KFC standards, meals are made from fresh, not frozen chicken.

The aim is to expand the KFC and Pizza Hut network in the Baltic countries, thus the opening of the first KFC in Riga is an ambitious and important step in the development plan, emphasizes Sigurdsson.

He says that new KFC fast food restaurants will also open in Lithuanian cities Kaunas, Klaipeda, and Vilnius next year, as well as new Pizza Hut restaurants in Finland's capital Helsinki. Altogether there will be 15 KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in the Baltic countries next year.

The American fast food chain has set up its restaurant at 14 Audeju Street in the Old Town of Riga.
