Passenger train from Poland arrives in Kaunas after gap of 75 years

On 27 August, a train from Poland will arrive in Kaunas on the new Rail Baltica track with Catherine Trautmann, the European Coordinator for the North Sea-Baltic core network corridor, of which Rail Baltica railway line is a part, aboard. A train from Poland with passengers aboard last arrived in Lithuania in August 1939, reports LETA/ELTA the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The aim of the visit of the European coordinator is to evaluate the railway infrastructure of Lithuania and Poland, contract works made on Rail Baltica project in Lithuania and the prospects for the further implementation of the project. The coordinator will be accompanied by the representatives from Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian transport ministries and other institutions.

 

During the trip, the progress on Rail Baltica implementation and prospect on carrying out a high-speed train project from Kaunas to Tallinn will be discussed.

 

Catherine Trautmann together with the delegation will arrive in Kaunas railway station on 27 August at 8:30 p.m. On 28 August at 10:45 a.m., the coordinator will arrive in Vilnius railway station.

 

All works intended to be carried out on the Rail Baltica section from the Polish-Lithuanian border to Kaunas have already been completed.
