Ventspils Region's sawmill and timber trader Kurekss turned over EUR 51.34 million in 2014, which 19% more as compared with EUR 43.28 million in the previous year, reports LETA, according to Firmas.lv information.

The company's profit doubled from EUR 1.86 million in 2013 to EUR 4.14 million in 2014.

Kurekss management report says that 2014 so far has been the most successful year for the company. The company managed to maintain its positions on all sales markets – the majority of timber was sold in Great Britain and Egypt, with good sales results also in South Korea, France, and Belgium.

In order to ensure steady saw log supplies, the company continued to buy new felling sites in Kurzeme province. In 2014, the most important investment project was conducted in collaboration with the Latvian Investment and Development Agency in the amount of EUR 1 million to replace the company's saw log sorting line.

At the same time, the report says that due to objective reasons, situation on the global market has changed this year. Prices and demand fell, therefore the company does not expect posting as successful results in 2015 as last year.

Kurekss was founded in 1995 in Ventspils Region's Targale County. The plant is located in Ventspils and has 191 employees. The company's share capital is EUR 20,000,000.
