Estonian state injects more than EUR 30 mln in research infrastructure

In the next five years, the Estonian state will inject more than 30 million euros in developing infrastructure important for science; the corresponding programme was signed by Estonian Education and Science Minister Jürgen Ligi, the ministry's press department announced LETA.

"The advancement of science and work of scientists that creates results is not possible without the proper infrastructure," said Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Science Indrek Reimand. "Therefore, the development of infrastructure directly supports our research and development activities' competitiveness and long-term goals."

 

Research infrastructure means laboratories, apparatus and appliances, as well as archives, materials and the like. In developing research infrastructure of national importance, the aim is to encourage the open sharing of infrastructure by various research institutions, companies and international partners, so that the infrastructure would serve the broader interests of the research system, the economy and society.

 

The programme "Support for research infrastructure of national importance based on the road map" total volume is almost 31 million euros, of which more than 26 million euros is European Union support. The Estonian state will contribute to the program over three million euros, and applicants for their part, need to add five percent, or a total of one and a half million.
