The oldest Tele2 mobile Internet user is 99 years old, but the average age of a mobile Internet user is 37, refuting the popular belief that mobile Internet is used only by young people in Latvia, reports LETA, according to the telecommunications operator Tele2.

"Already since 2012, surfing the Internet has been more popular among Tele2 clients than calling or texting. These significant changes were mainly due to two circumstances – manufacturers improved their smartphones and tablets in order to make the use of mobile Internet more convenient, while we took care of the mobile Internet network," says Tele2 technical director Liga Krumina.

The use of mobile Internet in Tele2 network increased 122% over the first half of the year, as compared with the respective period last year.

As reported, Tele2 turned over EUR 103 million and earned EUR 17.2 million last year. The company launched operations in Latvia as Baltkom GSM in 1997, when it became the second mobile phone operator in the country. In 2000, Baltkom GSM was acquired by Sweden's Tele2 corporation, and changed its name accordingly.
