Lithuanian transport sector indicators improved in June

Based on preliminary data of Statistics Lithuania, in June 2015 compared with June 2014, Klaipeda State Seaport and Butinge Terminal handled by 17% more cargo. Meanwhile, Lithuanian airports and Lithuanian railways transported by 24 and 10.8% more goods respectively, reports LETA/ELTA.

In June 2015 compared with June 2014, Lithuanian airports serviced by 4.7% more passengers, while Lithuanian airline companies carried by 16.7% more passengers.

 

The number of passengers in Lithuania's airports in January-June 2015 was 1.9 million, by 10.7% more compared with the same period of 2014. Most passengers travelled from or to: the United Kingdom (385,000 or 20%), Germany (192,200 or 10%), Norway (162,000 or 8.4%), Italy (137,500 or 7.1%), Denmark (93,600 or 4.9%) and Spain (92,600 or 4.8%).

 

In the first half of 2015 year-on-year, by 28.4% more passengers travelled from or to Spain, 19.2% – Norway, 16.4% – the UK, 11.1% – Italy, 7% – Germany. However, by 9.3% fewer passengers travelled from or to Denmark. Most passengers, 92% or 1.8 million, travelled via scheduled flights and this is by 12.7% more compared to the first half of 2014.

 

In January-June 2015, 5,800 tonnes of goods or mail were handled in Lithuanian airports, by 0.8% less year-on-year.

 

Lithuanian and foreign airplanes took off and landed 23,700 times in the first half of 2015, this is a 6.2% increase year-on-year.

 

In January-June 2015, Lithuanian airlines carried 260,500 passengers or by 22.4% more year-on-year. Most passengers, 201,900 or 77.5%, were carried on non-scheduled flights, this is by 24.4% more year-on-year. Passenger-kilometres by air stood at 547.9 million, a 26.4% increase year-on-year. Airplanes of Lithuanian airlines carried 467 tonnes of goods and mail, by 21.7% more year-on-year. Goods and mail-tonne kilometres by air totalled 374,800, an increase of 64.9%.

 

In the first half of 2015, 23 million tonnes of goods were transported by Railway. This is a 2.5% decrease compared with the first half of 2014. Domestic freight totalled 6.2 million tonnes, a 4.4% decrease, while international freight totalled 16.8 million tonnes, a 1.8% decrease.

 

In the first half of 2015, Klaipeda State Seaport and Butinge Terminal handled 22.2 million tonnes of cargo, a 5.3% increase year-on-year. Klaipeda State Seaport handled 18 million tonnes of cargo, by 1.6% more, whereas Butinge Terminal – 4.1 million tonnes, by 25.1% more.

 

In the first half of 2015, Klaipeda State Seaport handled 181,700 containers (TEU) and 119,700 of ro-ro cargo. Compared with the first half of 2014, container handling decreased by 16.8%, while ro-ro cargo handling by 1.7%.
