The Latvian fish processing company Piejura, which is based in the western coastal village of Nica, has launched exports to China in July 2015, the company informed LETA.

Piejura has already sent a shipment of smoked salmon and sprats to China, and in the near future will also be exporting frozen fish fingers and burgers.

''After our successful participation in the ''Sial China 2015'' exhibition this spring, we have begun exports to China. Thus, we are one of the first Latvian fish processing companies who have been successful in entering the Chinese market. I hope that we will see an increase in our sales volumes in this country,'' the company's marketing director Maris Daude points out.

At the same time, he also said that despite the Russian fish embargo, the company has been able to increase overall turnover by 20% when compared to the first six months of last year.

The company also plans to continue its next modernization stage, and will be investing EUR 1.5 million into its frozen fish production unit.

Piejura was established in 1995, and currently employs 230 persons.
