Estonian VKG restarted first oil plant

BC, Tallinn, 06.07.2015.Print version
North East Estonian town Kohtla-Järve's largest employer Viru Keemia Grupp (VKG) re-launched on July 2nd one of the shale oil factories that were stopped in December 2014; the launch was possible thanks to parliament's recent decision to allow using unused mining quotas, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Now VKG concern's Ojamaa mine can raise mining volumes so that it could use the quotas that were not reached in previous years.

VKG Priit Rohumaa said that the law amendment gives the company mot room for manoeuvring and plan its business activities.

Last year in December, VKG closed two Kiviter technology-based shale oil plants. There were several reasons: the low world market price of oil, high price of oil shale and exhausting its maximum allowed annual mining volume.

VKG has said that it would re-launch the second plant in about six months' time.
