Latvia registered EU's 2nd largest increase in retail trade turnover in May

In May, compared with May 2014, the volume of retail trade increased by 4.9% in Latvia, which is the fifth best growth among the European Union member states for which data are available, according to latest information provided by Eurostat. Estonia was second, writes LETA.

The highest increases in total retail trade was observed in Poland – 7.6%, followed by Estonia –5.7%, Ireland – 5.6%, and Hungary – 5.2%.

 

In Lithuania, year-on-year retail trade turnover rose by 2.4%.

 

Meanwhile, a reduction in retail trade turnover was only registered in Luxembourg – by 10.6%, Denmark – by 2.4%, and Belgium – by 1.5%.

 

The annual retail trade turnover increased by 2.4% in the euro area, and by three% in the European Union.

 

Meanwhile, when compared to the previous month, retail trade turnover in the EU increased by 0.3%, but in the eurozone by 0.2%.

 

The highest monthly increases in total retail trade were registered in Poland – 1.5%, Estonia – by 1.4%, and Malta – 1.1%.

 

The largest decreases were registered in Ireland – 2.5%, Denmark – 2.5%, as well as Lithuania – 1.2%.

 

In Latvia, month-on-month retail trade turnover in May fell by 0.9%.
