The collector coins issued in Latvia have very successfully participated in the 9th International Commemorative (Collector) Coin Contest Coin Constellation 2015, as the Bank of Latvia's press secretary Janis Silakalns told LETA.

The winners of the contest were recently announced in Moscow. All in all, the national central banks, mints and other collector-coin-issuing entities from 29 countries competed for prizes in nine major categories, presenting 240 collector coins and 23 coin series to the judgment of an international jury.

Coins issued between January 1 and December 31, 2014 could participate.

The White Book, a collector coin issued by the Bank of Latvia in 2014, emerged as the winner in the category Unique Concept. This silver EUR 5 collector coin, designed by Sandra Krastina and struck by Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt, is dedicated to The White Book, a masterpiece created by the outstanding Latvian writer Janis Jaunsudrabins (1877-1962).

The silver EUR 5 collector coin issued in August 2014 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Baltic Way was ranked second in the category Silver Coin of the Year. The graphic design of the coin is created by Visvaldis Asaris, and Ligita Franckevica is the author of the plaster model. The coin has been struck in the Netherlands by Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt. The coin is a dedication to the peaceful demonstration of August 23, 1989, unique on an international scale, when about 2 million people from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined their hands to form a human chain, which for 15 minutes was spanning over 600 kilometers through the capital cities Tallinn, Vilnius and Riga.

Coin Constellation is a contest in which Latvia has successfully participated before. In 2014, for instance, the coin 365 was the winner in the category Unique Idea Concept, whereas the silver collector coin dedicated to the world-renowned composer Richard Wagner was bestowed world's Best Silver Coin honors.

The Coin Constellation contest is organized by the Russian Publishing House Watermark.
